We estimate the density of our wood by calculating the volume of each piece using the dimensions and the formula below. If possible we apply the same formula also to one-piece backs, but if a piece is too irregular in shape, volume calculations may not be possible.
As a next step we weigh each piece using a precision scale and then calculate the estimated density as follows:
Estimated density [g/cc] = mass [g] / volume [cc]

The moisture content of wood (and with it its dimensions and weight) will change based on storage conditions.
